Second Chances

Fireworks Live 2007

A few years back I was looking for a copy of This Is Hell's debut 7". I headed over to Run For Cover Records' website to see if they had it (they put the album out) and while I was there I checked out another one of their bands. That band was Fireworks, and I just couldn't get into it, so I wrote them off. Last week I stumbled across their myspace page, and decided to give them a second chance since I figured it couldn't be worse then the last time I checked them out. And damn am I glad that I did, because their new album "All I have To Offer Is My Own Confusion" kick ass. It's a very pop-punk sound, and that makes it oddly familiar but they put their own touches on it that make it feel original. If you are down with some good pop-punk then I would suggest heading over here where you can stream the whole album. Even if it's not your thing you should give it a shot, it's a good album.

Edit: I just got a copy of the new Arms Aloft 7" and I'll be posting a review shortly.

Max Payne 3

The Max Payne series is one of my favorites of all time. I don't know who's psyched about this, but I hope it's not just me.

Press release:

NEW YORK, Mar 23, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce that Max Payne 3 is currently in development and scheduled for a winter 2009 release on the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system and PC. Developed by Rockstar Vancouver, Max Payne 3 tells the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.

The award-winning Max Payne franchise put players in the role of Max Payne, a hard-boiled New York City detective with a penchant for violence, out to avenge the death of his family. The latest installment delivers more of the classic elements and hyper-intense action that fans have come to love, while moving the story of Max in a new direction.

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.

Max Payne 3 will be available in winter 2009 for Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 and PC.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I started school last month, and have been adjusting to the schedule.

So big news lately. Blink-182 is back and are currently writing a new album! Also expect a world tour in support of the album. The band announced it at the Grammy's, but being the age of the internet, the info was leaked out well over a week a head of time. Leak or not, this is some great news.

It also seems that Nine Inch Nails are planning a "hiatus" after their final tour with a reunited Jane's Addiction. You can check Trent's exact words over here. All I have to say is that I hope that Trent continues to release music, and continues to push the envelope when it comes to the promotion, and sale of music.

I'll be seeing Thursday on March 4th, during the NYC stop the the Taste Of Chaos tour. They dropped a new album last week, and it's pretty killer. I've spun it a few times, and I have to say that so far it rivals Full Collapse as my favorite Thursday album. The band also just had Waiting released on vinyl, and that is limited to 1000 with 500 on white and 500 on clear. Now if only they would do another pressing of Full Collapse, because I'm not down with spending $150+ on one record.

Speaking of new records; Cursive drops a new one on March 10th. it's pretty sick. If you head over to ap.net you can check out a new track. If you liek what you hear, you can grab it digitally at a special price. Check this out, Saddle Creek decided to put the album up today for download for $1, but from now until March 10 when the album is released it goes up $1, so tomorrow it will be $2 and so on.

Halo Wars drops on Tuesday, and it's looking pretty sweet for a console based RTS. I know the demo got me stoked about it, but what it really did was get me pumped for Starcraft II. Apparently there is supposed to be a beta for it sometime in the near future. We've been talking about some other games in the forums too, like Street Fighter IV, GTA4: The Lost & The Damned. Oh yeah, and in the thread about games we've beat, we got into a discussion about the red ring of death and Xbox Live vs. Playstation Network, so if you have any comments please add them to the forum or even this post.

Hopefully I can grab some pics from the show wed and post them live, but I'm not sure what kind of service I'll have in there. So I'll just have to see.
