sounds decent, man for sure. i'm not sure if this makes me feel the same way the first few times i heard the old records back in the day did. those felt fresh and new, and a completely new way to use samples and dj's and what not. but i don't know. a lot's changed since then. but yes, i can see how this removes them from wherever the last record put them. good god, what an embarrassment. what's more, that quote from the song is one of the greatest pieces of public speaking. i think i had it on my personal blog at some point, back a year or two ago.

A few of the Beat poets, including Ginsburg, had breakdowns and spent time in mental hospitals. In fact the poem Howl was dedicated to Carl Solomon, a deeply trouble man he met during one of his longer stays, who himself became something of a known poet.

Does that help? Is that the kind of thing you mean?

when you're a musician/artist and you want to do what you love for a living, 95% of people don't understand that you have to be flexible in some shape or form in order so 'succeed' in a broad sense. sure, you can be the stubborn singer/songwriter that just goes around playing coffee houses his whole life, living on scraps and not changing your sound for anyone; that's his version of succeeding. but that's skating the line between being tenacious and being completely unreasonable.
We've all seen the local bands that grow a reputation and a fan base on their hometown sound, only to find national success and have their aesthetic ultimately change in order to appeal to a broader group of people. the old fans scream 'sell outs' while thousands of their new fans are singing along to their catchier, more radio-ready songs. who ultimately wins, and who ultimately loses? for the former it's pretty much everyone, and for the latter, well, it's only the people that let it get to them.
I applaud 'the force' for finding a means to an end. if you have the talent and skill to have someone pay you $25K to put a pop song together, and use that money to establish yourself and have it easier for you to do what YOU ultimately want to do, do it. there's no reason why you shouldn't other than your own insecurities about what other people might think of you. screw it.
